Last-Minute Machu Picchu Tickets: What to Do When Tickets Are Sold Out
A sold-out route does not always mean every Machu Picchu option is gone. Check other entry times, Route 2-B, Circuit 1, Circuit 3 and nearby dates before changing the entire trip.
If all online permits are unavailable, there is an official in-person next-day system in Machu Picchu Pueblo, also called Aguas Calientes, but tickets are limited and not guaranteed.
Can you still get Machu Picchu tickets when they are sold out online?
Sometimes. Another route, time or nearby date may still be available. Peru's Ministry of Culture also allocates up to 1,000 in-person tickets each day in Machu Picchu Pueblo for entry the following day. You must purchase in person, and availability is not guaranteed.

What does "sold out" actually mean?
Machu Picchu inventory is divided by route, date and entry time. Route 2-A can be sold out while 2-B or another circuit remains available.
Check every suitable route before assuming that the whole site is unavailable.

Official in-person tickets in Machu Picchu Pueblo
The Ministry of Culture makes up to 1,000 tickets available each day for in-person purchase in Machu Picchu Pueblo. These tickets are for admission the following day.
You must travel to the town, complete the official process in person and accept that your preferred route or time may no longer be available. This is a last-minute option, not a guaranteed reservation.
Can an agency get a ticket that does not exist?
No legitimate agency can create a government permit after the official inventory is exhausted.
Be cautious of anyone promising guaranteed access to a completely sold-out route without showing a valid official permit.
Do not buy nonrefundable transport first
A train ticket does not give you access to Machu Picchu. Do not commit to nonrefundable train or hotel arrangements until you know which entry route and time you can secure.
